What you need to know
No one wants to damage or lose their hair no matter if wearing or not a hair system. Wearing a hair replacement requires almost the same care with a special touch.
The durability of a hair system relies most importantly upon the quality of the hairpiece. It’s very important to know its proper maintenance and care at home.
There are two fundamental aspects to this process. First, we will share the clinical (professional) aspects, and then personal care tips. This Guide will help you avoid common mistakes and learn the proper maintenance to extend its durability. We will share the right and easiest way to help you learn the process.
Professional aspects
First: Hair System Selection
The best care tips can fail if you don’t choose the best hair replacement system. The scalp is one of the most sensitive areas of the skin. Protecting your skin is a serious game. A Trichologist, with experience in this field, can help you find the best quality and base type to allow scalp ventilation.
Second: Proper treatment
Even the best hair systems are made of natural hair but are lifeless. Their hydration requires special care. A professional treatment can be required frequently.
The hair system is placed in the scalp using long-lasting but not permanent capillary adhesives. Is very important to know how long the adhesive holds on your skin. Removing the glue on time will prevent it from spreading weaken the hair and cause it to fall out excessively or faster than normal.
Also knowing the right way to reapply the hair system on your scalp is fundamental. This part of the process requires hair protectors (products and procedures), the right haircut, and correct styling to achieve optimal maintenance.
Personal aspects
First 24 hours after application
Avoid wetting your hair, touching your hairline, sudden temperature changes, or sweating. Minimizing those activities within 24 hours after application will improve longer-lasting fixation.
Beware of hair products
Almost all hair systems are made with processed hair on a great or lesser scale. The less processed hair pieces are the hardest to dehydrate or lose their original colors.
Jorgen has a variety of hair products formulated to protect your hair system. Jorgen moisturizing shampoo and conditioner can be your allies. Other hair products may damage your hair system with harmful ingredients.
Reading product labels will help you avoid harsh chemicals.
Here’s a list of some harmful ingredients:
Hair products
- Propylene Glycols
- Diethanolamine (DEA)
- Triethanolamine (TEA)
- Chemical Fragances
- Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate
- Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS)
- Parabens
- Sodium Chloride
- Alcohol
- Formaldehyde
- Synthetic Colors
- Dimethicone
Washing your hair
Cleaning your head with gentle movements will prevent knots. Using warm water is highly suggested. Hot water may crimp your hair roots and also affect the color hues of your hair system. Cold water may close hair cuticles reducing its volume.
Hair system adhesive is water resistant but it is highly suggested to rinse your hair after bathing in pools, rivers, or the beach to remove impurities.
Brushing
Applying too much conditioner to loosen knots can make your hair porous and dry over time. Over-conditioning may also weaken capillary adhesives faster.
You can use gentle movements to brush your hair using a wide-tooth comb when it’s dry or before removing the conditioner. Avoiding harsh pulling will prevent hair shedding.
Over-processing
Common hair salon treatments are not suggested even for natural hair systems. The chemicals used for dying or bleaching hair may result in unwanted results or permanent damage to your hair replacement.
To preserve the hydration and color hues you must avoid over-processing your hair. Jorgen products include gel, leave-in conditioners, and a variety of hair products specially made for hair systems.
